Southwest Airlines carries more domestic passengers than any other US airline, running a single-fleet Boeing 737 operation to more than 100 airports across the United States, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Its commercial model is the reason a gift card goes so far here: no change fees, and two checked bags included on most fares, so the face value buys travel rather than disappearing into ancillary charges.
The card is USD-only. There is no euro, pound or peso version — Southwest issues gift cards exclusively in US dollars, even for its Mexico and Caribbean routes. What you are choosing when you buy is the denomination, not the currency. Retail denominations top out at $500 per card, which is the ceiling we mirror.
Redemption is unusually flexible for an airline: online at southwest.com, by phone on 1-800-I-FLY-SWA, or in person at a Southwest ticket counter. Most carriers refuse gift cards at the counter; Southwest accepts them. The card covers passenger airfare plus the sales tax, security fees and passenger facility charges attached to the ticket.
Southwest gift cards have no expiration date and no maintenance, dormancy or service fees, and the airline states they are fully transferable. They are, however, not replaceable if lost or stolen — keep the delivery email. We never ask for a Rapid Rewards login, a passport or any government ID; an email address is all we need.
