About this card

IKEA started in 1943 in Älmhult, southern Sweden, and grew into the world's largest furniture retailer: roughly 480 stores in 60+ countries, owned by INGKA Group under franchise from Inter IKEA Systems. The catalogue holds about 9,500 products covering flat-pack furniture, kitchens, bathroom fittings, mattresses, lighting, textiles, kids' rooms, plants, tableware, the food market and the assembly/delivery services that go around it.

An IKEA gift card spends like cash at any IKEA register and on the matching ikea.com country site. In most markets you can split the balance freely between the two — buy a desk online today, walk into the store next month for the lamp, and the remaining balance is still on the same code. The card stacks with IKEA Family member prices and any percentage-off promo code at checkout; it's treated as a payment method, not a discount.

Each card is region-locked to the country of issue: a US card redeems on ikea.com/us and in US stores only, a German card on ikea.com/de and in German stores only, and so on for the seven markets we sell (US, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Sweden, Canada). The exact store URL is on each variant chip above. You will never share an IKEA login, name, or government ID with us — the only thing we ask for is an email address to deliver the code.

Validity follows local law and varies by country: no expiry in the US, Canada and Sweden; 5 years in France and Spain; 3 years in Germany; 24 months in the UK. Crypto rails save us roughly 2-3 % on payment processing and we pass that back as the discount on each variant — 2 % in the US/UK/Canada, 2.5 % across the EU and Sweden.

What you get

  • A claim code, delivered by email
  • A private order page (14-day access)
  • Re-issue or full refund if the code fails
  • No IKEA login or ID required

Asked & answered

Specifics for IKEA cards. For general crypto-payment questions, see the site FAQ.

Which IKEA store does my gift card redeem on?

IKEA gift cards are region-locked to the country of issue. A US card redeems only on ikea.com/us and in US stores; a German card only on ikea.com/de and in German stores; and so on for the seven markets we sell. The exact store URL appears on each variant chip above and on your order confirmation. Buying the wrong region locks the balance to a country where you can't redeem it.

How do I actually use the code — in store or online?

Both. Online: add items to cart on the matching ikea.com/<country>, choose Pay with gift card at checkout, paste the code and PIN. In store: hand the printed code (or pull up the email at the till) to the cashier — they scan or key it in like any other tender. Both flows are first-party IKEA — no third-party redemption.

Can I split the balance between online and in-store?

Yes in most markets. IKEA tracks the remaining balance on the same code, so you can spend €60 of a €100 card online today and walk into a store next month with the same code to spend the remaining €40. Sweden, Germany, France, Spain, the UK and Canada all support this. (Some country sites use a separate "balance check" page — link is in the redemption section on this page.)

What can I buy with an IKEA gift card?

Anything in the IKEA catalogue — roughly 9,500 products: flat-pack furniture, kitchens, bathroom fittings, mattresses, lighting, textiles, kids' rooms, plants, tableware and the food market (Swedish meatballs included). Also IKEA assembly and delivery service charges. Cannot be used to buy other gift cards.

How long is the card valid?

Validity follows local consumer-protection law: US — no expiry; Canada — no expiry; Sweden — indefinite (home market, no statutory cap); Germany — 3 years from issue (German civil code §195); France — 5 years from issue; Spain — 5 years from issue; UK — 24 months from issue. Per-variant validity is shown on the region note when you pick a store.

Does it stack with IKEA Family discounts and promo codes?

Yes. The gift card is treated as a payment method, not a discount, so it stacks freely with IKEA Family member prices, seasonal sales, and any percentage-off promo code applied at checkout. Discounts are computed on the basket total first; the gift card pays whatever's left.

What if the code fails at checkout?

Reach us via the order page within 14 days. We re-issue a fresh code or refund the full amount in your original coin — no forms, no proof required. Almost all failures are typos when keying the code in store; copy-paste online is safer.

Why pay in crypto for a flat-pack purchase?

Three reasons specific to a furniture order: privacy on a big-ticket purchase (a sofa or kitchen runs four figures — that's a sizable line on a bank statement that profiles where you live and how you furnish it), reach (works without a credit card, useful for expats or in countries where IKEA has no local card-issuer relationship), and price (we pass crypto-rail savings back as up to 3 % off retail).
