The same code spends at Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta — in their stores, on their websites, and in the Factory and outlet formats (Gap Factory, Banana Republic Factory, Old Navy's clearance stores). In practice that covers a household end to end: playground clothes and school jeans from Old Navy, a suit or a linen shirt from Banana Republic, leggings and training kit from Athleta, everything in between from Gap. It is the rare gift card that does not force the recipient into one aesthetic.

The balance is store credit and behaves like it. It applies at the register or at online checkout, part-spends and keeps the remainder for the next visit, stacks with other cards, and carries no expiry or dormancy fee under the US terms. Two limits are worth knowing before you pay: it cannot settle a Gap Inc. credit-card statement and it cannot be used to buy another gift card. Can a Gap card really be spent at Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta?

Yes — it is issued by Gap Inc., not by the Gap shopfront, so one balance is accepted across all four brands online and in store. The recipient can put the whole card into Athleta leggings, split it between Old Navy kids' clothes and a Banana Republic shirt, or never set foot in a Gap at all.

Does it work at Gap Factory, Banana Republic Factory and outlet stores?

Yes. The Factory and outlet formats are inside the same programme, so the balance spends at Gap Factory, Banana Republic Factory and Old Navy's clearance stores as well as the full-line ones, and on their websites. For a fixed balance that is usually where it stretches furthest.

Can I use a US card in Canada, or a Canadian card in the US?

No. The two programmes are issued separately, in separate currencies, by separate Gap Inc. entities — so a US dollar card is refused at gapcanada.ca and in Canadian stores, and a Canadian dollar card is refused at gap.com. Pick the country the recipient actually shops in before you pay.

Can it pay my Gap Inc. credit-card bill or buy another gift card?

Neither. The card is merchandise credit: it buys clothes at the register or at checkout, but it cannot be applied to a Gap Inc. credit-card statement and it cannot be used to purchase further gift cards. Loyalty points still accrue on the purchase exactly as they would with any other tender.
