Most DSW shoppers are loyalty members, so the useful thing to know is how the card interacts with the programme: it does not cost you anything. A gift card is a payment method, not a discount, so the merchandise still earns DSW VIP points as long as the account is attached to the sale — signed in online, or the phone number handed over at the register — and that spend still counts toward the Gold and Elite tiers. Reward certificates you have already earned can be applied to the same transaction: the reward comes off the price first, then the gift card settles what is left.

The balance itself behaves like cash on the order. It works on clearance and on full-price stock, it covers tax and shipping, the remainder stays on the card for the next pair, and a shortfall is charged to a second payment method. Do DSW VIP points still accrue if I pay with a gift card?

Yes. A gift card is a tender type, not a discount, so the merchandise earns points exactly as it would on a debit card — provided the VIP account is attached to the sale, by signing in online or giving the phone number at the register. Can I use a VIP reward certificate and the gift card on the same purchase?

Yes, and the order they apply in works in your favour. The reward certificate comes off the price first, as a discount, and the gift card then settles whatever is left as payment. A $40 reward on a $110 pair of boots leaves $70 for the card, so the balance stretches further rather than being burned at full price.

Will it work at DSW Canada or dswcanada.ca?

No. DSW's Canadian operation runs on its own systems with its own gift cards, and a US-issued card is explicitly excluded from Canadian stores and from dswcanada.ca. This card is for the US stores and the US site only, so buy it for someone shopping on the US side of the border.

Can I use it to buy another gift card?

No — that is the one explicit exclusion in DSW's terms, in store and online alike. Everything else in the assortment is fair game: full price, sale, clearance, the online-only brands, handbags, accessories and kids' shoes. The restriction only blocks converting the balance back into another card.

Does it work on clearance and on the online-only assortment?

Yes to both. Because the card pays rather than discounts, it applies after every markdown and promo code has already come off, so clearance racks are exactly where it goes furthest. Online it also reaches the deeper dsw.com assortment — the sizes and brands the local warehouse floor does not carry.

Does the balance expire, and can I combine cards or pay the difference?

The balance does not expire and carries no service, dormancy or inactivity fee. Several codes can be applied to one order and are drawn down in turn; if the order costs more than they cover, the remainder goes on a card or wallet at the same checkout, and if it costs less, the leftover value stays on the card.

How fast does the code arrive, and can I send it straight to someone else?

The code is emailed once your payment confirms on chain, about eleven minutes on median. Type the recipient's address into the delivery field at checkout and it goes to them directly — the code is never displayed on the payment page, so it stays between the two of you.
